Architect Recognized for Public Service to Mason City

Mason City, Iowa (April 1, 2016) – Scott Smed, AIA a member of the American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa) has been recognized as a participant in the AIA Iowa Citizen Architect Program by AIA Iowa for service to the Mason City area.

Smed, of Bergland + Cram was appointed to Commissioner, past Chair and past Vice Chair of the Mason City Historic Preservation Commission. This commission is responsible for periodically reviewing the historical district's boundaries, developing an action plan, compiling inventories and coming up with educational programs. Smed was nominated and appointed by the Mayor/City Council in 2002 as Architect to the Commission and has since been re-appointed by the next two Mayors.
