AIA Iowa Members and Iowa Legislators, Join us!

Join AIA Iowa on Thursday, November 8 to discuss the top priorities of the Chapter for the 2019 Legislative Session. The event will be aired statewide, hosted and broadcast from DLR Group in Des Moines. Several satellite locations will be available across Iowa. Issues that will be discussed include Building Codes, Energy Codes, Project Delivery and School Safety. The event will start off with networking for attendees at 7:30 a.m. Incoming Chapter President Danielle Hermann, AIA will welcome attendees at 7:45 a.m. Following the welcome Alan Wieskamp, AIA and Michael Lewis, AIA Co-Chairs of the AIA Iowa Government Affairs Committee will highlight the goals and discuss the 2019 legislative priorities. Legislators in attendance will have time to share their thoughts on the issues discussed as well as their priorities for 2019. Lastly, there will be time for questions and answers from attendees at the host site as well as satellite locations.

Seminar Description:
Attendees will gather at a local Iowa Architecture firm to discuss in detail the upcoming legislation with their local legislators and items that can greatly affect the architecture industry including: Licensure, School Safety and Project Delivery. These topics will be brought to the attention of legislators to warrant support for the profession and to maintain the mission of AIA to improve the built environment through service to members, the profession and the public providing sustainable design and livable communities.

Learning Objectives: 
1. To advocate the need for fair and honest alternative project delivery contracts to local state legislators.
2. To describe to state legislators the issues of law and proposed legislation that affect architects, their practice and the public interest.
3. To create change and influence legislation to uphold the health, safety and welfare of the public.
4. To assess topics including alternative project delivery, school safety and livable communities needs in order to promote and protect the architecture industry.

AIA Continuing Education:
By attending this AIA Iowa Professional Development Seminar, AIA members will earn 1.5 HSW AIA CES LUs. AIA Iowa is an AIA CES Approved Provider (#A023) with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System. Credit earned on completion of this program will be reported to AIA CES for AIA members. Certificates of Completion are available upon request.

Architectural Experience Program and AIA Continuing Education:
Interns may earn AXP Supplemental Experience hours by completing approved AIA Continuing Education programs – one AIA CEU/LU is equal to one AXP experience hour. When submitting to NCARB, Learning Units (LUs) must be documented on the intern’s AIA transcript. Any intern in AXP can request a free AIA Transcript by visiting the AIA website.
