2017 AIA Iowa Convention- Save the Date!

Save the date for the 2017 AIA Iowa Convention: Cohesion. This year’s convention will be held September 28-29 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

Cohesion is integral to every successful team. Each team member possesses expertise, which when melded fosters a culture capable of solving the most challenging problems. Diversity of expertise, alternative perspectives, and innovative ideas are positive attributes in an industry in need of evermore creative solutions.

The 2017 Convention will offer 24 educational workshops, 4 keynote speakers and a large variety of exhibitors. Each convention-goer that attends the full two-days of events has the opportunity to earn 9 learning units, most of them offered are approved for HSW credit.

Learn more here. Event registration opens in early July!

2017 Legislative Session

AIA Iowa would like to thank our government affairs chair Bill Dikis, FAIA, lobbyists Paige Thorson and Paula Dierenfeld, and many of our members for their efforts during the 2017 Legislative Session. This year was a great success for our association and for the profession.

On April 13th Governor Branstad signed into law SF 413, reducing Iowa’s statue of repose from 15 to 8 years on commercial construction and from 15 to 10 years on residential.

The Governor also signed SF 438, a bill prohibiting government-mandated Project Labor Agreements. AIA Iowa’s architecture licensing bill was signed into law on May 11th. Senate File 408 is an Act requiring licensure rather than registration of architects practicing in this state. Thank you for contacting your legislators and supporting AIA Iowa’s advocacy efforts!

AIA Iowa supports Iowa State Fair Photo Contest

We will be learning from on Jonathan Sloan, AIA, Project Manager with BNIM Architects on the ins and outs of the Visual Arts Building and Josh Rechkemmmer, AIA, Architect with Neumann Monson for School of Music. The seminar is $155 for members and $180 for non-members. Be sure to sign in to get your member discount.
