Save the date for the 2015 AIA Iowa/Central States Region Convention. This year’s convention will be held October 15-16 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines. The theme is “Design Central: Architecture in the Square States.” We are excited to showcase all that the Central States Region (Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma) have to offer and we are honored to host the regional convention. AIA Iowa Supports Iowa State Fair Photo Contest
Once again, AIA Iowa is sponsoring the Architecture category for the annual Photo Salon Contest at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. You are encouraged to submit your best photographs, in architecture or any other category. Last year several AIA Iowa Members won awards or mentions for their pictures. For rules and an entry form, please visit this link. Entries can be submitted on June 13th and 14th from 10am-4pm in the State Fair Cultural Center in Des Moines.
AIA Iowa would like to thank our government affairs chair Bill Dikis, FAIA, lobbyist Paula Dierenfeld, and many of our members for their efforts during the 2015 Legislative Session. This year we were able to keep our members informed through our new “Advocacy News” newsletter distributed weekly. We are already gearing up for the 2016 session and look forward to your continued contributions. We will be releasing our Official 2015 AIA Iowa Legislative Report soon.

2015 is the AIA’s Year of the Advocate, the kick-off of a multi-year strategy to build the AIA’s ability to influence policymakers from the ground up. AIA is leading this change, sign-up to be a part of it here.

AIA Iowa Summer Social
AIA Iowa Members, join us on June 18th for a FREE AIA Iowa Summer Social in Coralville, Iowa. We will be visiting Backpocket Brewing for a Tour of their brewery, food, and drinks! The brewery will also be showing a classic movie on a big-screen on their outdoor patio! (Movie to be announced closer to the event date).
The event begins at 6 p.m., followed by a tour of the brewery at 6:30 p.m. and then food and drinks until 8:30 p.m. all hosted by our wonderful sponsoring Allied Members (listed here).

The AIA Iowa / Central States Region Convention will offer 24 educational workshops, 4 extraordinary keynote speakers and a large variety of exhibitors. June 25-27, 2015 Preservation Iowa Summit: The Power of Preservation
The third annual Preserve Iowa Summit is the premier statewide annual conference for professionals and volunteers involved in historic preservation in Iowa. Attendees will learn how to discover, preserve, and enhance our communities’ unique history and sense of place. AIA Iowa is the official AIA Continuing Education Provider for this event and AIA Iowa members can earn up to 6.25 CES LU/HSWs for attending.

2015 PD Offerings
The AIA Iowa Professional Development Committee has offered over 20 LU to AIA Iowa members and nonmembers thus far in 2015. Events have been held in Sioux City, Independence, Ames and Des Moines.
