Don't Miss Out- Host a Dine and Discover in 2015
There are only 5 spots remaining for 2015 Dine and Discover Presentations! Don’t miss your chance to present your product or services to your target audience.
What is a Dine & Discover event? Practitioners from firms in Iowa are invited to come to the AIA Iowa office (or a different location if the presentation is being hosted in another part of Iowa) one or two times a month to participate in a one-hour lunch and learn provided by an Allied Member.
How do they work? The presenting Allied Member provides a marketing paragraph for AIA Iowa to include in an announcement that is sent out approximately two weeks prior to the program. RSVPs are collected by AIA Iowa and are due at noon the day prior to the lunch. AIA Iowa then notifies the Allied Member of the number of people signed up. The Allied Member is responsible for ordering lunches and drinks for the meeting and providing a location for the lunch if it is not held at the AIA Iowa Office.
How do I sign-up? Below are the remaining available dates for the Dine & Discover Program in 2015. Dates are on a first come-first serve basis. If you would like to reserve a date for your company to present at a Dine & Discover event, please contact Jennifer at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Iowa Architectural Foundation
The Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) is pleased to announce its participation again in this year’s Festival of Trees and Lights in Des Moines. Former IAF Executive Director, Kristin McHugh-Johnston, returned to Des Moines to design and decorate IAF’s tree with help from volunteers of the Iowa Architectural Foundation. All materials were generously donated by Kristin, with the exception of the laser-etched ornaments, courtesy again of ASI Signage. The tree was valued at nearly $4,000 and was the third tree to be underwritten at this year’s gala. All proceeds benefited Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
The IAF tree, “Iowa Architectural Details,” was decorated in bronze, gold, and green tones and featured custom-made ornaments of significant Architectural details throughout Iowa, including the whimsical windows of Blank Children’s Hospital, the window of the American Gothic House, a column base of the Dubuque Public Library, one grotesque of the Equitable Building of Des Moines, the intricate frame of one of the stained glass windows of the “Jewel Box” bank in Grinnell, a planter outside the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Park Inn of Mason City, the curved windows of the Warren Opera House in Greenfield, and an exterior frieze of the Woodbury County Courthouse. Each ornament is based on a photo that was carefully scanned and subsequently drafted by volunteer architects of the Iowa Architectural Foundation. The ornaments were then laser-etched by ASI Signage of Grinnell on clear material for maximum impact when the tree lights are on.
The holiday season is special for children of all ages and the Iowa Architectural Foundation was proud to share its vision of “Iowa Architectural Elements” to support Blank Children’s Hospital. Architectural elements, while individual, combine to create the beauty of an entire structure. Like architectural elements, IAF recognized that Blank Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Services and Child Advocacy Outreach are key pieces necessary to treat children with life threatening illnesses. We hoped our tree brought joy and happiness to all who viewed it.
As part of the Iowa Architectural Foundation’s branding enhancement project, the Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) Board of Trustees is seeking to refresh and update its current logo graphic (see right) in order to improve IAF’s name recognition and to better represent the great programs that the Foundation supports and provides. The current logo was developed by one of AIA Iowa’s own and has served IAF well for many years. IAF would like to reach out again to our colleagues in the architectural, interior design and graphic design communities for the next big idea. For additional information about the Foundation, please visit our website at www.iowaarchfoundation.org or contact our Executive Director at 515-244-1888. All entries are welcome. Although ultimately a high resolution graphic will be needed, in order to not limit the number or individuals who wish to submit, entries should be submitted in a simple color .pdf or .jpeg format.
Entries should be submitted electronically to Carolyn Larson at email@example.com no later than January 17th at 5:00 p.m. For more information, please view the Call for Entries.
