Four Iowa Architecture Firms Receive Design Awards 
in the Central States Region

Des Moines, Iowa (October 24, 2014) – Four American Institute of Architects – Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa) firms were recognized with Design Awards at the AIA Central States Region (CSR) 2014 Excellence in Design Gala – A Celebration of Design on Oct. 23 in Springfield, Missouri. Eighteen projects out of 250 submitted were recognized. The AIA Central States Region includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

The Excellence in Design Awards are the highest recognition for works that exemplify excellence in commercial architecture, historic preservation/adaptive reuse, residential architecture, urban design & planning, and  interior architecture. Projects are judged based on a variety of features, including unique design, originality, extended use attributes, sustainability, budget, and use of environmental surroundings.

The four firms receiving awards are:

Neumann Monson Architects, Architecture Merit Award for the Des Moines Municipal Services Building in Des Moines, IA.

OPN Architects, Inc., Architecture Merit Award for the Cedar Rapids Public Library in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Shive-Hattery, Inc., Architecture Citation for the Commuter Lot Transit Shelter in Iowa City, IA.

OPN Architects, Inc., Architecture Preservation Merit Award for the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Substance Architecture, Urban Design Merit Award for the Principal Riverwalk Pavilion in Des Moines, IA.
