American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter Visits Capitol to discuss 2014 Positions

Des Moines, IA (February 10, 2014) –The American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa) will visit the Iowa State Capitol for Design Professionals Day on the Hill Monday, February 10th. Attendees will meet with state legislators to discuss issues pertinent to the architecture profession including three major principles to enhance Iowa’s vitality and viability. Issues of interest for the 2014 legislative session include: Good Samaritan Protection, Alternate Project Delivery, and Statute of Repose.

"Our goal is to connect with state legislators to show the importance of the architecture profession and the role that architects play in our communities,” said Executive Director of AIA Iowa, Jessica Reinert, CAE, IOM, "Iowa architects enhance the quality of life for both current and future generations. Livable communities, sustainability and quality design is vitally important to enhancing Iowa’s vitality and viability. Our legislative positions help to ensure Iowa’s prosperity.”

The Chapter’s main goal in 2014 is to secure Good Samaritan Protection. As an inherent part of its professional citizenship, Iowa architects are willing, when needed and invited, to volunteer without compensation to assist emergency management officials in assessment of post-disaster damage. Emergency management officials enthusiastically support this proposal.
