Architects Recognized for Public Service in the Dubuque Community

Dubuque, Iowa (April 30, 2013) – Kevin Eipperle, AIA, and Christina Monk, AIA, both with FEH Associates, are members of the American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa) and have been recognized as participants in the AIA Iowa Citizen Architect Program for their service to the community of Dubuque.

Eipperle serves as a board member and Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee for the Dubuque Community School District Foundation.  In this role, the board promotes the importance of public education and serves as a means for encouraging community investment in the enhancement of educational opportunities for all students in the Dubuque Community School system.

"As a school design architect, I have a strong interest in integrating the design of the building into the mission of education that will support all aspects of education from quality facility design to livable communities,” said Eipperle.

Monk has been appointed as an architect at-large commission member of the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission.  In this role, she is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the historic character of the community by reviewing all exterior renovation and new construction projects in the five National Register’s historic districts within the city. The Historic Preservation Commission and Monk also assist in an advisory role for the City Council regarding demolition applications within the Conservation Districts which comprise the majority of the downtown.

My involvement in the Commission began due to an interest in historic structures in Dubuque and a desire to take part in protecting them,” said Monk.  "I will advocate for building preservation where there is architectural significance and promote any financial incentives to improve historic properties.”

The Citizen Architect Program recognizes AIA Iowa members who represent AIA's values in their community through public service. To learn more about this program visit AIA Iowa’s website at .
