AIA Iowa Chapter Awards Scholarships to Iowa State University School of Design Students
 
Des Moines, IA (September 5, 2013) The American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 AIA Iowa / AIA National Diversity Scholarships, AIA National/AIA Iowa Merit Scholarships, and Iowa Chapter AIA Scholarships. 
 
The following students at Iowa State University’s School of Design have been recognized for their outstanding dedication to the Architecture industry. 
 
AIA Iowa / AIA National Diversity Scholarship: Each student will be awarded $1,000.00. Jasmine Gunn and Alan Mui are the recipients. Gunn  is a fourth year student this fall. She has been awarded the position of President of the National Organization of Minority Architect Student Chapter at ISU (NOMAS) and was a George Washington Carter Scholar. She is an academic tutor and during a recent summer worked with an architect teaching young adults about architecture and urban design in Chicago. Mui is a fifth year student this fall. He has had three award winning projects and while interning at DeStefano+Partners he received an award for outstanding performance in the Chicago ACE mentoring program.
 
AIA National/AIA Iowa Merit Scholarship: Each student will be awarded $500.00. Bobbi Jo Reiff and Justin Wendt are this year’s scholarship recipients. Reiff is a fifth year student this fall, is an Iowa resident and has a high GPA. Reiff has been actively involved with the AIAS, the College of Design Career Days and the College of Design Council and has expressed the importance of participating in extracurricular activities, holding leadership positions, and attaining work experience in the field of architecture – all while dedicating herself to high scholastic achievement. Wendt is also a fifth year student, is from Wisconsin and has a high GPA. He is in the University Honors Program and was selected as a member of a team of architecture students that presented a studio project, focused on public transportation, to the Kansas City Council/Board of Transportation.
 
Iowa Chapter AIA Scholarship: One award of $800.00. Erica Fischer is this year’s recipient. Fisher is a fifth year student this fall. She has a high GPA and has served as President of the AIAS, ISU Chapter as well as the College of Design Council Secretary. Fisher has been involved in various service projects and clubs at ISU. Through her involvement with AIAS she has learned communication, managing and collaboration skills that will serve her throughout her years as an architect.
