Membership in the AIA offers a vast pool of resources to help you compete in today’s market and keeps you informed of critical professional issues that may challenge your success. Each membership type has a different set of benefits each are listed below. We invite you to become an AIA member today.

Architect Member


Member Benefits 
Individuals who are licensed to practice architecture in the United States are invited to be a part of the leading organization representing the interests of the profession, The American Institute of Architects (AIA). Visit the AIA National web site Architect Member to learn more. Members who reside in Iowa are eligible to belong to AIA Iowa as their local AIA Chapter.

AIA Architect Membership (AIA-M)

One of the advantages of being a licensed architect member of the Institute is the use of the AIA credentials, identifying you as part of the community of architecture. AIA members adhere to AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and are required to strengthen their knowledge of the profession through continuing education requirements. View or download the 2010 New Member Application for a U.S. Resident.

AIA Member Emeritus (AIA-E)
AI
enotes an AIA member in good standing for 15 successive years who 1) has attained the age of 70, or 2) has attained the age of 60 and is fully retired from the profession or unable to continue working in the profession. Members' Emeritus receive the same benefits as AIA members but now have the emeritus status without the customary membership fees. Eligible AIA members can visit the AIA national website Emeritus to obtain an emeritus member application form.

Associate Member


Member Benefits

AIA Associate Membership (A)

  • Recent graduate with a degree in architecture, or
  • Currently enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working towards licensure, or
  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect or hold a degree in architecture, or
  • Faculty member in a university program in architecture. 

AIA International Associate Architect Member (Int'l Assoc. AIA)

Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. Licensing authority are eligible to join as an Int'l Assoc. AIA.  In addition to the many benefits of joining the AIA, international members residing locally can take advantage of the many networking and educational opportunities offered by AIA Iowa. As the emerging leaders for the profession, associate members are encouraged to join AIA to expand your network and knowledge about the practice of architecture. Visit the AIA National web site Associate to learn more. As a special incentive to associates, AIA Iowa a one-year complimentary membership up to 18 months after graduation date. Take advantage of complimentary membership for recent graduates. Associate AIA membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:

AIA Iowa Allied Membership
The AIA Iowa Allied Membership program plays an integral role in creating a partnership between building industry professionals, specifically members of the design/construction team, and enhancing their collective interestes. Allied Membership is offered to individuals employed outsitd of the architectural practice, but are involvedin a position allied to the field of architecture. Visit this link to learn more.

Professional Affiliate

Professional Affiliates
The AIA Iowa Professional Affiliates program is for those in professions affiliated with design. Professional Affiliates must be registered to practive their professions where such requirements exist, with establishd professional reputations. They may be engineers, planners, landscape architects, sculptors, muralists and other artists and designers; professionals in government, education, industry, research and journalism, and/or others who the chapter believes will provide meaningful contribution by virtue of their employment or profession. Professional affiliates cannot be licensed to practice architecture.

 

Section Membership


Central Iowa Architects (CIA)

The Central Iowa Architects section covers central Iowa including the Des Moines Metro, Ames, and Indianola. CIA yearly activities include building tours, Sandjam, bowling, business/office tours, and a pool tournament. Cedar Rapids / Iowa City Architects Council (CRICAC)
