Emerging Professionals Architecture for Humanity Event
 The AIA Iowa Emerging Professionals group have joined together state-wide for their 7th annual Architecture for Humanity event. Join them in supporting local Habitat for Humanity chapters across Iowa as they demonstrate architects' commitment to their communities this September 18. All licensed architects, intern architects, Allied members, architectural students, families, and friends are encouraged to participate. The following communities will have workdays: Cedar Rapids (September 11), Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, and Sioux City. Please contact John Gabrielson, Assoc. Allied Fall Social
 The Allied Fall Social was held on Thursday, September 2 at the first Iowa State University football game of the season. Activities include a tailgate dinner from the Branding Iron, beer tasting from Olde Main Brewery, and tickets to the football game, ISU vs. N. IL. This event was free to all AIA Iowa Architect members compliments of the Sponsoring Allied Members listed below. Cyclone's beat Northern Illinois 27 to 10. There were over 100 people in attendance and a great time was had by all. Thank you to the sponsors listed below for making this event possible and to all of those who attended.

AIA Iowa Supports 2010 Iowa State Fair Photo Salon
AIA Iowa was a proud sponsor of the 2010 Iowa State Fair’s annual Photography Salon category, “Iowa Architecture”, class #46, for the fourth year in a row this category was a featured division in the contest. AIA Iowa challenged members of the public to capture a piece of the Iowa architectural heritage that we all enjoy. The assignment was to photograph a part of the built environment within Iowa, a place where we all live, work, and play.
The 71st annual photography salon took place at the 2010 Iowa State Fair. AIA Iowa would like to congratulate the top three winners in the category “Iowa Architecture”. It was a tough competition with 69 photographs entered, 14 of which were exhibited at the fair and a select 6 received ribbons. First place was awarded to Shane Abbitt, of Ankeny, for the photo entitled “Capitol Details”. Second place was given to Michel C. Riggs, of West Des Moines, for his photo entitled “Rider Way Bridge”. Third place was received by Debbie Bates, of Greenfield, for his photo entitled “Brick Corncrib.
Farewell to Kate Schwennsen
AIA Iowa hosted an evening in honor of Kate Schwennsen as she prepared her leave from Iowa and to the sunny south as Chairwoman of the Department of Architecture at Clemson. The party was held at the Jasper Winery on June 25.
Allied Spring Social
 The Allied Spring Social was held Thursday, May 20 at the beautiful McCord Indoor Club Lounge at Kinnick Stadium on the University of Iowa Campus in Iowa City at 5:30p.m. There were nearly 70 people in attendance. The highlight of the event was the tour of the visitor's locker room. It was a great time to network with Architects and Allied members outside of the workplace. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cookies, iced tea, lemonade and beer were served for dinner. Congratulations to Greg Sundberg, AIA, Kevin Monson, AIA, and Bradley Fritz, AIA, they each won a door prize of a $100 bill.
